Ode To Blogging

When I was first told that we had to do a semester blogging project, I had no idea what a blog really was. I had seen some blogs on MySpace but had no idea that blogs were such a big thing in todays society so I was interested to learn more about them. I have to say that even after doing the semester blogging project I am still up in the air about blogs. I don’t think I would ever start my own series of blogs for people to read. I might on the other hand read and respond to other people’s blogs. I like to read about other people’s opinion on topics that interest me. I did like the fact that this project opened me up to a new world. I may not love blogs, but I love to learn about what is going on in the world, and blogs are definitely one of the many things that are going on in the world. The internet in my opinion can really have a big effect on people’s lives. Especially to all the millions of people who live their life by technology. I use th internet often but I do not live my life by it. I would rather get my facts from the local news or newspaper. I don’t know, call me old fashion I guess. Like I said before if I want to read about other people’s opinions then I would look for blogs. Overall I really enjoyed the blogging project. regardless of what other people may say, for me it was a good learning experience, because I would have never before thought to do a blog in y life if it wasn’t for this class.

Facebook Myspace dillema

I actually just became a member on Facebook. I have had a MySpace for a long time, but I never saw the point was in having a Facebook to. There are a lot of things that I like about Facebook and a lot of things I don’t. I like the fact that Facebook is basically an opinion site. You can voice whatever is on your mind at any time. I like the fact that I can keep in touch with my friends that live out of town. We like to share pictures. What I don’t like is that on Facebook you can be anyone you want to be. So I really hate it when parents let their young children have Facebook. You hear about online predators all the time. You have to be extremely cautious what information you put about yourself. You would be surprised how little information such as what movie theater you are going to can be so dangerous. It just blows my mind how young some of these kids are that are on Facebook. You are supposed to be 18 to go on the site, but you can be anyone you want to be on Facebook or MySpace. Parents who let their kids have a MySpace or a Facebook think they might be able to control the traffic of the sight when really they can’t 100%. So why take the chance? MySpace and Facebook can really be good sites if you are a responsible adult. I personally go on Facebook to play games and keep in touch with close family and friends. I just urge people to be extremely carefull when using either sight. They can be dangerous!!

Why isn’t recycling services offered at apartments?

Ever since I moved out of my parents house I have always lived in an apartment. I have noticed that all the apartment complexes that I have lived in don’t offer recycling services. So when I was exploring the internet I found that I am not the only one that shares this concern. I have learned that an apartment complex that has under 100 tenants are not required to offer recycling services, but my apartment definitely has over 100. So why don’t we offer recycling? The question for right now has to be left unanswered. I have been to a couple sites where there are people who you can contact so maybe apartments will start offering recycling. You can also look up on the internet and find the number for your city. The city is who you want to call if you are concerned about this topic. There are also other things that you can do, I found a site where you can create online petitions. In my opinion it may be a good place to start there and work your way up the chain. I have found that there are people all around the world that are very concerned about their apartment complexes not having recycling services. I don’t really know how much of a difference it really makes to have online petitions as opposed to paper petitions. But maybe it starts with the online petitions than you can branch from there and start going door to door. I know I am going to start an online petition for all the people in my local area that suffer from apartment complex living.

Stop Overpaying CEO’S!!!

Sometimes you do you think it’s no wonder our country is in a recession when all the CEO’s in America are sitting back making millions of dollars a year? I definitely do. I just don’t understand what’s going on. I understand that some of them may work hard, but I still don’t think that they deserve to make THAT much! There are a lot of other people in this world that work just as hard and don’t even make half of what a CEO makes in a year. Maybe if CEO’s didn’t make so much then the money could be spread out and everyone else could make a little more. One CEO in particular that makes an unbelievable amount of money is John Maknison. He co-founded Makinson Cowell, a specialist independent financial consultancy firm. Then after five yearswas their managing director. He now works at Pearson Group as a finance director. He works in the subsidiary part of Pearson Group called Penguin Group. Between 2007 and 2008 he made 1,240,000 million! Even more current than that is the CEO of the clothing stores Abercrombie and Fitch. His name is Michael Jeffries. Michael Jeffries was given $71.8 million dollars when is base pay is ONLY supposed to be $1.5 million per year. The company paid him $6 million dollars just so he would remain with them, even though he had already been there 17 years! The company says that he WILL make more than 75% of all the other CEO’s with the company! In my opinion that is not in any way fair. Everyone should make roughly the same amount for doing the same job. But now you can see how outrageously overpaid many CEO’s in America are. I think that it is really sad that our country is in a recession and the only people who have to pay for it are the people who are middle-class and under. Maybe we all really need to start wondering where our money really goes!

Water bottles

Why do people keep using water bottles when they know how bad for the environment they are? In my opinion it is because they are easy and convienent to find. I know that when I get to school, I can just simply stop at a vending machine and get a water and not even think twice about what it might do the environment! Or I can just walk into a grocery store and grab a 24 pack of bottled water, because it is just simply easier, right? Well what we do not think about is what it does to the environment. In 2006 Americans consumed 28.3 gallons of water!!! Imagine how high that number is know that it is almost 2010!! Plus imagine how many plastic water bottles that is sitting in a landfill somewhere destroying the Earth. So the question is , what can we do? Well it is simple, just go to pretty much any local store and buy a reusable water bottle. It saves money in the long run. Do you know that bottled water costs more than the price of gasoline!!! Everyone always complains about gas prices, so why do Americans spend so much on bottled water? We are all at fault for this and I think that it would be easier if I just went out and bought a reusable water bottle. Then I could put anything that I wanted to in it. So I could probably save money else where as well. Just think if we all bought a reusable water bottle, how much it would help save the Earth!!!

Health Care Reform

As you all should know, today, October 13th 2009, is the day that the senate is voting on the health care reform bill. People that you and I don’t even know and some people that we never heard their names, are deciding our fate in health care. Now I don’t know what your opinion is on the subject, but I know that it scares the shit out of me. Maybe it is because I don’t like change, or because I don’t like the fact that the government is slowly taking over and we have absolutely no say! There are many people in the world and they all have different health care needs and opinion on the health care reform subject. I guess I just don’t understand why the President is trying to pass this bill right now. America is already hurting so much as it is, especially the lower and middle class citizens. All I see is that this whole health care reform is going to cost us more money. Higher taxes, which the middle and lower class citizens obviously can’t afford. I understand that in the long run it may save us money, but how far down the road are we really willing to look? Not even to mention how much money it is going to cost the government, and America is already in a recession. I do understand that everyone would have “free” health care, but how much of our freedom do we really want to give up?

GO GREEN!!

I just recently became a parent. All the sudden I am very concerned about the whole go green act that is going on right now. I have to seriously think about what the earth will be like for my daughter when my husband are gone. So I am tring to teach her the same ethics, so when she grows up she can be earth friendly as I hope to become. Do you think that you could change your life to help save the earth? I think one of the main concerns about going green is the cost. It is especialy hard to do seeing as how the economy is pretty much shot to shit (to say the very least). I have been having a really hard time adjusting. America has the attitude of me first, and so the save the earth campain is not important to all people, when it should be. Especially people who are over the age of 60. They don’t really care what the earth will be like in 100 years because they won’t be here to have to experience how horrible the earth will be if something isn’t done now. For me I have a really hard time recycling, because my apartment building doesn’t offer that service! So in order to recycle I have to save all my recycling and send it to my mothers house. That is another problem. Recycling isn’t even offered every where. I send my recycling to my mothers, but think about how easy it would just be to throw it in the trash can. Out of sight out of mind. That’s the mentality that we all have. If it’s not easy for us then we don’t do it!!!
